The Detroit men's tennis team was idle for 10 days, but all that rest will come in handy this week as the Titan netters will be in action four times over the next six days, starting with a home match against Chicago State on Tuesday.
The Titans (5-5) and Cougars (0-6) will hook up at the Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield at 11:00 a.m., in a contest that was supposed to be played in Chicago earlier in the year, but was postponed and then moved. Last season, UDM blanked CSU, 7-0.
Detroit will then move on to Columbus where the red, white and blue will try and put an end to one of the most impressive winning streaks in the history of sports as the Titans battle No. 4 Ohio State on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. The Buckeyes, 13-1 on the year, have won 100 straight home matches with their last loss coming in 2003. OSU also features four players ranked in the top 100 in Chase Buchanan (23), Justin Kronauge (30), Dino Marcan (47) and Shuhei Uzawa (91).
Horizon League play is next with UDM visiting Wright State on Friday (6 p.m.) and Butler on Sunday (10:30 a.m.) as the Titans look to avenge a pair of losses against their conference foes from a year ago.
Detroit last played on March 6 when it rolled past IUPUI, 6-1, its fourth win in its last five matches. Senior
Pjotrs Necajevs (Riga, Latvia/Herdera Vidusskola) leads the squad with a 21-3 record in singles, all from the top position, while freshmen
Chris Cheung (Mississauga, ON/Erindale Secondary) and
Alex Latosinsky (Sarnia, ON/St. Christopher's) are second on the team with 10 singles wins apiece.
