Baumgart was the first Titan sophomore to be named to the All-Missouri Valley Conference team in 1953. He followed that season up with another first team All-MVC campaign at center as a junior. He helped U-D to an MVC co-championship in 1953 and again in 1955. A tough, dependable linebacker on defense known for his “Iron Man” performances on both sides of the line was also a member of the Titan baseball team.
