Besides making the All-District IV team his junior and senior seasons, Turkington was also named the team captain. An Academic All-American as a senior, he wound up his U of D career with a batting average of .303. He remains the all-time career stolen base with 57 and third in sacrifices with 25. He sits second at the University for the most sacrifice hits in a season with 13 in 1975 and has the fourth highest stolen base total for one year when he swiped 17 in 1974. He is also noted for his solid play at second base where he committed only 20 errors in 462 chances. He had a knack for getting on base as his career total 108 walks indicate.
