Cantillon was a two-time All-American in 1966 and 1967. He won the Illinois Memorial Award in 1966 which is presented annually to the College Fencer of the Year. He was part of the U.S. Olympic team in 1968, the Pan-Am team in 1971 and was the National Amateur epee champion in 1974.
