Clark was U-D’s head football coach and athletic director for three years from 1951-53 after serving as an assistant football coach in 1950. With the Titans, he was the Missouri Valley Coach of the Year in 1952 when QB Ted Marchibroda set an NCAA pass mark with 390 yards in a loss to Tulsa. Clark was inducted to the National Football hall of Fame in 1951, the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 1959, and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1963 as a charter member.
