Palumbo threw two touchdown passes in his first game as a starter in 1936. He had his best game against Tulsa in 1938, when he passed for three touchdowns and ran for two more. He played on the Eastern College All-Star squad and in the Shrine All-Star Game in 1939. He ended his career by throwing a 50-yard TD pass to upset Santa Clara. He was a first round draft choice of the 1939 Pittsburgh Pirates (NFL).
