Charles “Gus” Dorais was one of the originators of the forward pass in football as we know it today. He was an outstanding athlete at Notre Dame. In his 18 years as head coach at the University of Detroit, his football teams won national recognition. He was an inspiration to those who knew him and is remembered for his fine Christian character and ability to get along with others. A plaque dedicated in his honor was donated by the Metropolitan Alumni Club of the University of Detroit on November 11, 1955 that sits outside the main entrance to Calihan Hall by the athletic offices.
