University of Detroit Mercy Athletics

Ackermann left the university holding nine different school and Missouri Valley Conference records. He broke in during the 1950 season by setting a school record with 20 first-place finishes as a Titan swimmer. He paced Detroit to a second place finish in the Missouri Valley that year and represented U-D in the 1950 NCAA Championships. He was the first Titan Swimmer ever to accumulate over 100 points in a single season.
