He was the captain of the 1932 football team that was 8-2 and in the two games fell by a total of seven points. He started as a left end and switched to right tackle after his first year. He won the coveted Loyalty Award in 1932 and in 1933 he earned the John P. Scallen Scholarship Medal for the highest academic record and top athletic proficiency. He was a good blocker and a terror on defense.
