Hamann was one of the greatest hitters to ever put on a Titan uniform. From 1973-76, he led U-D to four straight 20-win seasons, including 1975 when the Titans posted a record high 36 victories. He was selected as a second team Independent All-American in 1976 after batting .327. He became the first player in school history to get at least 70 hits in one season. He finished with a career average of .347 and was selected in the sixth round by the Chicago White Sox. He was the first Titan player to be drafted by a major league franchise.
