Inside Lacrosse All-Freshman Team for Division I

Sophomore Joel Matthews (St. Catharines, ON/Holy Cross Secondary) added another accolade for his fantastic rookie season as he was named to the Inside Lacrosse All-Freshman Second Team.

The 2010 team MVP and second team All-MAAC performer, Matthews led Detroit in goals (37) and points (48). He posted seven hat tricks on the season, tied for the seventh most in the country, including a season-high and then school record five markers against Ohio State in just his second collegiate game. He also had four goals on four other occasions.

He started off the year clearly putting himself in the national spotlight with four goals in the season opener against Bellarmine and 12 goals in the first three games of the non-conference slate. He had the second most scores for a freshman at the Division I level, while finishing 14th in the nation with 2.47 goals per game and 36th totaling 3.2 points per contest.
