Titans to Play at Delaware State

DETROIT (2/21/2013) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team will play a pair of weekend contests starting Friday at 12:00 p.m. at Siena followed by a match-up with Delaware State on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

Robert Morris
The Titans opened the 2013 season at the Robert Morris Colonials on Saturday afternoon falling by a 13-7 score. Freshman Michaela Schwartz led UDM with three goals while Tessa Keuler and Megan Callahan also added two goals. Keuler added an assist for a three point game and Lindsey Saunders and Zaynib Hamze also had assists. Lexie McCormick made 12 saves in goal for the Titans. Detroit was down 7-1 at the end of the first half, but ended the second half even in goals with Robert Morris with each side scoring six.
 
And “Z” Winner Is…
Senior captain Zaynib Hamze was recognized as one of the Atlantic Sun Co-Defensive Players of the Week on Monday. At Robert Morris, Hamze had three caused turnovers, three ground balls, gathered one draw control, and added an assist on Michaela Schwartz's first goal of the game. Hamze also took four shots as the Titans fell by a 13-7 score Saturday in Moon Township, Pa. against the Colonials.
 
May The Schwartz Be With You
Freshman Michaela Schwartz scored three goals in her first ever NCAA Division I game on Saturday. Schwartz also scored the first goal of the season for the Titans taking a pass from Hamze just before the half at RMU. Schwartz also opened the second half with a goal for UDM on a free position shot and tallied her third marker taking a pass from Tessa Keuler in the final goal of the game.
 
Hit the Road Jack
UDM will be on the bus to Loudonville, N.Y. for Friday's game at Siena and continue on to Dover, Delaware to play Delaware State on Sunday. Detroit will have two more road contests before opening up at Titan Field against Niagara on March 7 at 2:00 p.m. Overall, UDM will have five of its 17 games at home with a sixth contest at a neutral site in Columbus, Ohio where Detroit will serve as the home team against San Diego State on April 1.
 
Siena
The Saints opened the 2013 season on Tuesday, Feb. 19 with a 15-12 loss to Bryant. Alyssa Treanor and Casey Irwin led Siena with three goals apiece while Sarah Croutier and Maggie Deloria also had three point days with Croutier tallying two goals and an assist and Deloria registering three helpers. Danielle DeLisio made seven saves in goal for Siena.
 
Delaware State
The Hornets from Delaware State are in the midst of their first ever season. Delaware State has played one game in its new era of women's lacrosse falling 21-2 to Wagner College back on Feb. 16. The game against Detroit on Sunday will be the first ever home contest for the Hornets. Delaware State is led by head coach Jillian Lontz who was hired in November 2011 in anticipation of beginning competition this season.
 
Where Do We Go From Here
The Titans will continue the 2013 season as UDM will head to Milwaukee to face Marquette on March 3. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
