Dear Coach Bob Miller,
On behalf of the entire University of Detroit Mercy community, it is with great pleasure that we congratulate you on your 90th birthday, this June 16, 2016.
Coach Miller, you have been a part of this University for nearly 60 years, as a student-athlete, assistant coach, head coach and ambassador for the Titans. No one will ever forget the dedication and the leadership you brought to this campus and all the hard work and sacrifices that you poured into the Detroit baseball team.
You have already been recognized numerous times by your peers as a member of the 1979 Titan Hall of Fame and the 1999 Michigan Sports Hall of Fame.
In your 36 seasons as skipper of the Titans, you amassed an amazing 896 wins, posting a winning record in 25 seasons, including reaching 30 victories nine times. You guided the program to a school record 36 wins in 1975, reached the NCAA Tournament in 1965 and won its first-ever MCC baseball championship in 1997.
Your professional baseball career speaks for itself as you were a part of one of the legendary pitching staffs in all of baseball in the 1950 Philadelphia Phillies "Whiz Kids", helping the team win the National League pennant while finishing second in the Rookie of the Year voting. To go on and pitch 10 seasons in the big leagues against some of the best players in the history of the sport is just another remarkable accomplishment.
Maybe your greatest accomplishment is the time you put in to serve this country in the United States Army during World War II, just another reason to say thank you.
Coach Miller, all of us here in Titan Territory want to wish you a very Happy Birthday and many more to come.
