DETROIT (12/3/2025) -- The squad has been training since it returned to campus in late August, and now, the season is here as the University of Detroit Mercy men's and women's indoor track and field team will begin the year with a pair of meets.
Most of the team will head to Notre Dame for the annual Blue & Gold Invitational on Friday, which starts at 1:00 p.m. at the Loftus Sports Center.
Some members of the team will travel to Saginaw Valley for the SVSU Holiday Open, which starts at 3:00 p.m. on Friday at the SVSU Fieldhouse.Â
The men's team returns 26 student-athletes from last season, adds 18 newcomers, and was picked to finish fifth in the Horizon League Indoor preseason coaches' poll after finishing fifth last year in indoor and seventh in outdoor.Â
The women have 30 returners and 15 newcomers, having been selected eighth in the preseason predictions after placing 10th in indoor and 8th in outdoor last season.Â
Last year at UND,
James Wallace led the way, winning the 200 meters and taking second in the 60m in his collegiate debut.
Trevor Watts led Detroit Mercy with a runner-up finish in the 60-meter hurdles, and
Mike Ferguson placed third in the 400m in 51.44 seconds.
On the women's side,
Meghan Koss claimed second in the 200m, and
Grace Steffes led UDM in the field events, earning eighth in the shot put.Â
