Haywood had what is considered the greatest single-season ever in Titan basketball history in 1969. He set school records for single season total points (771) and scoring average (32.1), most rebounds in a season (530), while leading the nation with an average of 21.2 rebounds per game. He also had the second most field goals (288), second most free throws (195), third most free throw attempts (254), and ninth best field goal percentage (.567). He received All-America honors in 1969 and won a gold medal as a member of the 1968 U.S. Olympic basketball team. He was signed by the Denver Rockets in 1969 and then was named the Rookie of the Year and MVP of the ABA in 1970 averaging 30.0 points per game and 19.5 rebounds per game. He also played professionally with Seattle, New York Knicks, New Orleans, Los Angeles Lakers, and Washington and won an NBA Championship with Los Angeles in 1980.
