Women's Hoops to Open Horizon League Play on the Road

SERIES RECORD

Detroit owns a 37-19 advantage in the overall series with Loyola and UDM is 15-12 when playing in Chicago. The series was split last season as the Ramblers won in Chicago by a score of 79-70 on Jan. 31 and the Titans claimed a 47-45 victory in Detroit on March 1.

ABOUT LOYOLA

Loyola heads into Saturday's match-up with a 5-5 overall record, which includes an 85-55 loss at Dayton on Dec. 23. The last win for the Ramblers came at home on Dec. 18 as they defeated Central Michigan by a score of 87-82. Junior Elyse VanBogaert leads Loyola with 13.4 points per game and also averages a team-best 6.7 rebounds per contest.

BOARDING SCHOOL

Junior Brigid Mulroy set a career-high with eight rebounds at Canisius on Dec. 8, which was tied for a team-best effort with redshirt freshman Talicia Washington.

NO HALL PASS NEEDED
Junior Chanica Hall dished out a team-high six assists for the Titans at Canisius on Dec. 28.

OPEN SESAME
Since the conference was changed to the Horizon League (2001-02), Detroit is 2-5 overall in its conference opener and 0-2 when the Titans play its first HL contest on the road. The last time UDM won its first conference game was on Dec. 28, 2004 when the Titans claimed a 67-43 victory against Youngstown State in Detroit. Last year, UDM fell to Green Bay at home by a score of 79-58 on Jan. 3.

LEADING THE WAY
Junior Brigid Mulroy led the Titans in scoring for the fourth time this season as she poured in 14 points at Canisius on Dec. 28, which marked her seventh double figure showing thus far this year.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Since 1977-78, Detroit owns a 16-15 overall mark in its first game of the new year and the Titans are 13-10 when those contests happen away from Calihan Hall. The last time UDM won the first game of the year was an 88-73 victory against Loyola on Jan. 5, 2006 and the preceding season marked the last time Detroit won when the opening game of the new year was played on the road. The Titans won that contest by a score of 62-56 at Loyola on Jan. 3.

FROM THE FIELD
The Titans shot a season second-best 45 percent from the field at Eastern Michigan on Dec. 20. Detroit's best field goal percentage showing thus far this season was a 48 percent effort against #23 Georgia in Detroit on Nov. 22.

START YOUR ENGINES
Two Titans have started every game for Detroit this season in junior Brigid Mulroy and freshman Jalesa Jones. Mulroy is averaging a team-best 12.2 points per game, while Jones has tallied a team-high 40 assists through 11 games.

LAST TIME OUT
Detroit's women's basketball team was unable to come up with its third consecutive win as the Titans fell to Canisius College by a score of 80-59 on Dec. 28 at the Koessler Athletic Center in Buffalo, NY.

In just over a four and a half minute span in the opening stanza, Detroit went on a 8-0 scoring run to take a 12-11 lead at the 13:56 mark after junior Heather Hatter made both of her attempts at the line. Junior Brigid Mulroy, who ended with a team-high 14 points, and freshman Jalesa Jones contributed to the scoring run as each added a field goal, along with one from Hatter.

UDM freshman Jaleesa Trussell sank one from long range with just over 11 minutes remaining to give Detroit a 17-16 advantage. However, Canisius responded with a 13-2 run, which was snapped after Jones netted one of her two attempts at the line to put the score at 30-20 at 7:13. That was the closest the Titans could get to the Golden Griffins in the first half as Canisius ended up taking a 49-33 lead into the break.

The Golden Griffins had its largest lead of 28, twice, with the last happening at 10:02 after a made free throw from junior Tasia Lee to put the score at 66-38. Mulroy cut the deficit to 19 after nailing a trey with just over two minutes left (76-57) and freshman Lauren Allen also pulled the Titans within 19 in the closing seconds, but Detroit would not get any closer to Canisius.

Senior Zemora Davis and Allen both scored in double figures with 12 points each, while Mulroy and redshirt freshman Talicia Washington tied for a team-best eight rebounds.

Detroit shot 41 percent from the field (22-of-54), while Canisius had a 28-of-70 field goal showing (40 percent). The 14 made from beyond the arc for the Golden Griffens broke the previous school record of 12 made treys. Rebounds were even at 38 a piece, while CC committed only eight turnovers to UDM's 20.

WHERE ARE THE TITANS?
As of Jan. 2, junior Brigid Mulroy s 12th among conference peers in scoring average (12.2 ppg), while senior Sandi Brown stands at 19th (10.8 ppg). In addition, Mulroy is sixth in 3-point FG percentage (.382) and third in 3-pointers made (2.4). Brown is eighth in free throw percentage (.793), while freshman Jalesa Jones owns 3.6 assists per contest (4th).

TWO EXTRA SESSIONS
Prior to Detroit's 76-75 double-overtime win at Eastern on Dec. 20, 2008, the last time the Titans played in a double overtime contest was a 107-102 setback to Kentucky on Dec. 28, 1983 in Detroit.

PLENTY OF POINTS
The 76 point showing at Eastern Michigan on Dec. 20 marks the most points the Titans have scored in a single game since a 78-65 victory against Wright State in Detroit on Feb. 19, 2004.

VS. RANKED TEAMS
The Detroit Titans made history on Nov. 22 as UDM defeated #23 Georgia by a score of 70-66 at Calihan Hall. This marked the first time since the conference changed its name to the Horizon League (2001-02) in which the Titans defeated a ranked opponent. UDM now owns a 1-11 mark in this category.

GOING BACK IN TIME
Detroit's win over Southeastern Conference member school, Georgia, was the first win against an SEC school since Nov. 23, 1979 when the Titans defeated Louisiana State by a score of 84-76 in Detroit. Prior to Saturday's victory, the Titans had lost 13 straight to SEC schools.

COACHING DEBUT AT HOME
Autumn Rademacher coached her first game for the Titans on UDM's home court against #23 Georgia and Detroit came out on the winning end, 70-66. Since the start of UDM women's basketball (1977-78), Rademacher and the eight full-time head coaches prior, now own a collective 4-5 record in their coaching debut on Detroit's home court.

DOUBLE TROUBLE
Freshman Lauren Allen collected her first career double-double as she netted a team third-best 13 points and tied for a game-high 11 rebounds against Georgia (Nov. 22). Allen also dished out a team second-best five assists.

DETROIT INKS THREE
UDM head coach Autumn Rademacher announced that three student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Titans, beginning with the 2009-10 season. The signees are: Demeisha Fambro (G, 5-9, Detroit, MI/Crockett Tech), Kassandra Hooten (F, 6-0, Moorhead, MN/Moorhead) and Cherridy Thornton (F, 6-1, Detroit, MI/Frank Cody Senior).

FINAL FOUR IN DETROIT
The University of Detroit Mercy will serve as the host institution for the 2009 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Final Four, which will be held on April 4 & 6, 2009 at Ford Field in Detroit, MI.
