University of Detroit Mercy's women's tennis team traveled to East Lansing to face Michigan State, but the Titans dropped a 6-1 decision at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility Sunday evening.

The lone point for the Titans came at the No. 3 singles spot as sophomore Amanda Cornwell (Waterford, MI/Kettering) defeated MSU junior Manon Noe by scores of 7-6(7) and 7-6(5). This marks Cornwell's second singles victory thus far this season in dual match competition as she captured a win at No. 4 singles versus Eastern Michigan (Jan. 17), which led to her earning Horizon League Women's Tennis Player of the Week honors on Jan. 19.

Detroit senior Svetlana Flankova (Riga, Latvia/Riga Secondary 21) and freshman Victoria Baca (Quito, Ecuador/El Sauce) forced a tiebreaker at No. 2 doubles, but eventually fell to MSU junior Whitney Wilson and freshman Amy Barton, 8-7(5).

The Titans will return to action when they make the short trip to Toledo, OH, to face the Rockets on Friday, Jan. 29 at 1 p.m.
