Men's Golfers Ready To Make Another Run At HL Crown

The Titan men's golfers return to Kearney Hill Links in Lexington, KY for the Horizon League Championship with an eye on a return to the top spot on the conference leader board.

The teams will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 more on Tuesday to decide a winner, and the team champion, as well as the top individual, will received automatic berths in the upcoming NCAA Regionals.

The Titans finished a close second in the league each of the last two seasons, continuing a strong showing which has seen them post nine Top 3 finishes in the last 11 years. That includes five championships. The Titans have won six league crowns overall, and one more would give them the outright lead for most by any member school.

Senior David Byrne (Essex, ON/Essex), the 2007 individual medalist and a three-time all-conference honoree, leads Detroit into the tournament. He is currently second among HL golfers with a 73.3 stroke average for the year. He tied for fourth place at the 2009 HL Championship with Titan teammate Britt Pronk (London, ON/St. Thomas Aquinas), who is currently second on the team with a 74.3 average.

Senior Brian Sparks (Shelby Township, MI/Lutheran North), junior Jeff Clarridge (Barrie, ON/Bear Creek) and freshman Simon Reyers (Kingston, ON/Holy Cross) will round out the Detroit lineup at Kearney Hill.

Golfstat will provide live scoring of the championship. A link is provided at the top of this story. DetroitTitans.com will provide daily wrap-ups as well.
