McCallum Continues Summer Tour

Sophomore Ray McCallum isn't content to rest on a superb rookie season.  Loftier goals are in place and hard work is paying off for the just-turned 20-year-old McCallum.

The Detroit Country Day product is currently participating as a counselor in the LeBron James Skills Academy in Akron, Ohio. It will be his second academy in as many months as he was one of 10 collegiate point guards invited to the Deron Williams Skills Academy in Chicago back on June 23-25.  There, McCallum joined the likes of Syracuse's Scoop Jardine, Xavier's Tu Holloway, North Carolina's Kendall Marshall and Wisconsin's Jordan Taylor, among others.

The goal of the Skills Academies is to instill the fundamentals into the next generation of top players. Each academy focuses on strength and conditioning and skill development. In addition to the on-court instruction the players also get to hear from the NBA athlete and the coaches on life lessons and what it takes to make it at the next level.

"I'm real happy especially since I felt like I did real well at the Deron Williams camp earlier," McCallum said. "I've been working hard this summer.  This will be a chance to put the University of Detroit Mercy back on the map.  It's a good opportunity for myself and UDM to be a part of this."

McCallum, along with 19 other top college players, will embark on James' hometown of Akron from July 5-8.  Included in that group is Duke's Plumlee brothers (Mason and Miles) and Jared Sullinger of Ohio State, among others.  Full rosters are posted here.  Check back to detroittitans.com and detroittitans.blogspot.com for more updates.
