DETROIT -- With the summer Canadian lacrosse league winding down, five members of the Titan men's lacrosse team saw their season come to an end in the Ontario Junior Lacrosse League playoffs.
Sophomore
Joel Matthews (St. Catharines, ON/Holy Cross Secondary) and freshman
Tom Masterson (London, ON/St. Thomas Aquinas CCS) put up some impressive numbers ranking among the league leaders in points and assists.
In the Junior A League, Matthews led St. Catharines in points (100) and assists (67), while finishing third with 33 goals. His 100 points was tied for fifth in the league, while his 67 helpers were also fifth. It was the second-straight year he reached the 100-point plateau after notching 104 a year ago. In the playoffs, despite the Athletics getting ousted in the first round, he added another eight points on four goals and four assists.
Also playing on the Athletics was sophomore
Jordan Houtby (St. Catharines, ON/Holy Cross Secondary). As a defenseman, Houtby tallied 17 points on 12 assists and five goals as he and Matthews helped St. Catharines to a playoff berth. In the playoffs, he assisted on three goals.
Masterson – playing for Kitchener-Waterloo Braves – finished the regular season tied for fourth on his team with 40 points on 34 assists and six markers. His 34 assists ranked second on the Braves and was tied for 22nd in Junior A.
In the OJBLL,
John Nowicki (Clinton Twp., MI/De La Salle) played with the Windsor Clippers, helping the squad to a Far West Division title. In 13 games during the regular season, he recorded nine points on the strength of eight assists. In the playoffs, he had five points on four helpers and a marker as the Clippers advanced to the second round.
Freshman
Alex Wilson (Boca Raton, FL/ Saint Andrews) started the year with the OJBLL's London Blue Devils, competing in seven games collecting two goals and four assists.
