DETROIT (10/10/12) --
The Detroit Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) announced its officers for the 2012-13 season on Tuesday night with women's lacrosse senior Megan Callahan earning the highest honor of President.

Junior men's lacrosse player Wes Steen was named the Vice President, while senior men's track & field standout Ja'Quan Patterson was selected the committee's Secretary.

“We have three great officers that that committee chose for this year,” said Amy Paling, Academic Coordinator, Assistant Director of Compliance & UDM's SAAC administrator. “All three are dedicated student-athletes who have been on SAAC for a couple of years and know exactly what the goals of SAAC are. With their leadership and the enthusiasm of this year's committee, I look for SAAC to make a great contribution to UDM and the community.”

SAAC is a group of student-athletes who are brought together to offer their insight on the experience of being a UDM student-athlete. These student-athletes represent their peers and teammates when offering their input on rules, regulations and policies that affect their everyday lives on the campus. They are a direct link between the University of Detroit Mercy student-athletes and administration. The members of the UDM SAAC committee are very active in the community, sponsoring many community service initiatives as well as organizing student-athlete events and assisting in overall student-athlete well being.

Callahan has started all 55 games in her career for the Titan women's lacrosse team as a defensive midfielder. She has been a mainstay on the Detroit Athletic Director's Honor Roll the past few years and has been very active with community service with SAAC and the women's lacrosse program.

Steen has been a member of the Detroit AD's Honor Roll for three years as well as the MAAC Academic All-League team and Academic Honor Roll. Patterson was the Indoor Horizon League Runner-Up in the long jump in 2011 and currently holds the top-five marks in Titan history in the long and triple jump.

SAAC already had a number of representatives participate in the Campus Recycling Clean-Up initiative that UDM student-athletes successfully completed on Monday. Be sure to visit DetroitTitans.com for all community service projects that SAAC takes part in.
