Fall Ball, Community Service On The Docket For Men’s Lacrosse This Weekend

DETROIT (10/5/2012) -- The Detroit men's lacrosse team will hit the road for its lone contest of the fall as the Titans head to Chicago and Hales Franciscan High School to take part in the Playing for Peace Catholic Lacrosse Showcase on Saturday. Hales Franciscan HS is located at 4930 South Cottage Grove Ave., in Chicago.

The Playing for Peace initiative seeks to use the platform of sport to transcend boundaries and bring people together in the pursuit of peace, justice and human understanding.

It will be a day of non-stop action for UDM with a pair of scrimmages against Bellarmine and Notre Dame as well as participating in a youth clinic and a local community service project.

Detroit will open the day against Bellarmine at 9:30 a.m. (EST) and Notre Dame at 12:30 (EST). The Titans have played Bellarmine in each of their four regular seasons, while this will be the first time Detroit and Notre Dame will square off in lacrosse.

While the first part of the day will be about seeing the team on the field and competing against two other Catholic lacrosse institutions, the afternoon will be dedicated to giving back to the community as players and coaches from all three teams will come together to put on a free lacrosse clinic for boys 8 and under.

In conjunction with the free youth clinic, the teams will also assist with another community service effort at the school as they help with painting, landscaping and general upkeep of the facility.

All three scrimmages (Notre Dame will face Bellarmine in between the Titans' two games) will be free and open to the public.
