Ray McCallum has been named the Horizon League Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 23-30. The honor is the third of McCallum's career and he becomes the second Titan to grab HL honors this season.
McCallum scored a game-high 22 points, while recording a team-high seven assists and five rebounds to lead the Titans. The win extended Detroit's home winning streak to 15-straight games with an 83-78 topping of Canisius on Sunday afternoon. The Titans home winning streak is tied with Oregon and Pittsburgh for the ninth longest in the nation. The win was also Detroit's 20th straight when scoring 80 or more points dating back to the 2010-11 season.
McCallum leads the Horizon League in both scoring (18.8 ppg) and assists (5.0 apg), while tied for the League lead in steals (1.7 spg). McCallum, who was recently named a Bob Cousy Award candidate for the second straight year, has registered eight games of 20 or more points this season.
Detroit (8-5, 0-0) will open Horizon League play on Thursday, Jan. 3 when the Titans welcome Milwaukee (4-10, 0-0) to Calihan Hall. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be streamed live on ESPN3. The Titans will also raise their 2012 Horizon League Tournament Championship Banner before the game.
