INDIANAPOLIS -- For the last few years, the Detroit men's lacrosse team has been among the nation's leaders in caused turnovers – topping the country in that statistic in 2011 - and the latest NCAA stats not only has UDM in front, but one Titan also leading the way.
Detroit now leads all Division I teams with 11.5 caused turnovers per game, a category that saw the Titans lead the nation last year at 11.63 per game.
After finishing sixth as a freshman (2.13) and second last season (3.25), junior
Jordan Houtby (St. Catharines, ON/Holy Cross) currently leads all Division I players in caused turnovers with 2.9 per game. The LSM now has 114 in his career which is also near the top among active players.
He is also second in the MAAC and tied for 18th in the country picking up 5.1 ground balls per game.
Other Titans are also among the top 50 in the country in a few categories, led by sophomore
Joel Matthews (St. Catharines, ON/Holy Cross), who ranks 16th in points (3.8), 25th in goals (2.3) and 31st in assists per game (1.5).
Sophomore
Shayne Adams (St. Catharines, ON/Denis Morris) is 32nd with 2.2 goals per game, while junior goalie
A.J. Levell (Columbus, OH/Dublin Scioto) is 21st in save percentage (.538) and 22nd in saves per game (10.11).
As a team, the Titans are also top 20 in ground balls per game (10th with 33.2), man-down defense (12th at .717) and 14th in saves per game (14th with 11.5).
The Titans open up a three-game homestand on Saturday when the red, white and blue host Siena. Game time is set for 11:00 a.m., at Titan Field.
