POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Junior
Jordan Houtby (St. Catharines, ON/Holy Cross) was selected the Long Stick Midfielder Of The Year for the second-straight season and two more Titans earned All-League honors as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) released its yearly awards at a banquet on Thursday night at the Dutchess Golf and Country Club.
Sophomore
Shayne Adams (St. Catharines, ON/Denis Morris) and junior
Jamie Hebden (Farmington Hills, MI/Brother Rice) earned Second Team All-MAAC honors, while 15 Titans were named to the Men's Lacrosse All-Academic Team.
Houtby earned the honor after finishing the regular season as the MAAC leader in caused turnovers with 2.71 per game, a number that his him ranked second in the nation. He had eight games on the year with three or more caused TO's, including a season-high five on the road at Manhattan. He is also third in the MAAC with 64 ground balls and 4.57 GB's per game.
In his career, Houtby has totaled 123 caused turnovers - third among active players - as well as a school record 214 ground balls.
Adams – the 2011 MAAC Rookie of the Year – earns his second straight All-MAAC honor after he was tabbed to the first team last season. On the year, he leads the team with 32 goals - third most in the MAAC. His 2.29 goals per game is 20th in the country, while his 2.57 points per game is 88th. He also has 36 points on the year – second on the Titan squad.
He is currently the Titans all-time leading goal scorer with 67 markers and comes into the MAAC Championship needing just five more points to tie his freshman season output. He has done all this while coming back from a torn ACL suffered in the MAAC Semifinals victory over Marist last year.
An All-MAAC Second Team selection as a sophomore and now a junior, Hebden took home the Titans Defensive Player of the Year just two weeks ago. Always called upon to guard the other team's best player, he ended the regular season second on the team with 21 caused turnovers and third with 38 ground balls.
One of the Titan captains, Hebden is part of a defense that leads the country in caused turnovers and is ninth in the nation in man-down defense killing off 75% of its penalties on the year.
Detroit's 15 selections to the All-Academic Team led the MAAC and was five ahead of second-place Canisius (10). Manhattan and Jacksonville each had six, while Marist, Siena College and VMI had five apiece. UDM sophomore
Wes Steen's (Columbus, OH/Olentangy Liberty) 3.93 GPA in mechanical engineering was the second highest GPA on the All-Academic Team.
