DETROIT (9/24/12) – While many fans are having tailgates for football games or getting ready for the next soccer game, many Titan basketball fans are now counting down to November 9th when the 2012-13 season begins. With team practices right around the corner a handful of publications have started to release their predictions, and the Titans have faired very well after winning the Horizon League Tournament and reaching the NCAA Tournament last year.
Lindy's Sports College Basketball was the first preseason magazine on the shelves, and it picked the Titans to finish first in the Horizon League, while
Athlon Sports College Basketball placed the Titans second. Both magazines named junior guard
Ray McCallum the Horizon League Player of the Year, as well as to the All-League First Team.
As for online polls the Titans were picked second in both the CBSSports.com Conference Catchup and the SBNation.com Horizon League Preview. Valparaiso was the only other school picked to win the Horizon League, while McCallum was also selected as the Player of the Year in both polls.
The Horizon League preseason poll, which is voted on by head coaches and sports information directors, will be announced on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at the Horizon League Media Day in Chicago, Ill. The media day festivities will be carried live on the Horizon League Network and ESPN3.
