DETROIT (10/24/2013) -- Calihan Hall was the place to be on Thursday night as the University of Detroit Mercy held its Annual Titan Tip Off inside the historic building.
Fans of both the men's and women's basketball programs came out to a night of excitement, singing, competition and giveaways to honor both squads as they get ready for the start of the 2013-14 season.
The Titan cheer team, DT2 and the pep band were on hand showcasing their new talent and entertaining the crowd. The cheer team opened the night with a great display of new routines, while the pep band had the crowd on its feet.
It was then time to introduce both programs with the 2013 defending WBI champion women's team coming out first. After their introduction, head coach Autumn Rademacher took to the mic and had the ladies challenge the men's team in a three-point contest.
The women's shooting ability lit up the scoreboard as they took down the opposition with the help of Coach Rademacher, who provided some sound by singing "Hit Me With Your Best Shot".Â
DT2 then ignited the crowd with dazzling moves and grooves before the Titan men were introduced. The cheer and dance teams both lined up the entrance of Calihan Hall as this year's Titans were introduced.
Fans then got a chance to see Detroit put some points on the board as the men broke into a red and white scrimmage with plenty of dunks down on both sides of the court.Â
The Detroit men's team will open the season with a pair of exhibition games on Oct. 26 and Nov. 2 against Lawrence Tech and Concordia, respectively, before tipping-off the regular season on Friday, Nov. 8 at South Alabama.Â
The women will have one exhibition game on the schedule as the Titans host Marygrove on Oct. 30 before opening the season on the road at Canisius on Nov. 8. The home opener for both teams will be on Monday, Nov. 11 as the women face Lawrence Tech at 5:00 p.m., with the men battling U-M Dearborn at 7:30 p.m.
