OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (2/20/13) - Detroit long stick midfielder
Jordan Houtby was among 20 senior lacrosse players selected as a candidate for this year's Senior Class Award.
“It is a great honor to be chosen as a candidate,” said Houtby. “It is something that I really never thought was possible when I came to college. I look back at the four years I have been here and the changes that I have been through as well as this lacrosse program and it is great.”
Houtby is currently the NCAA active leader with 126 caused turnovers and is ninth with 221 ground balls. He is a two-time MAAC LSM Of the Year and was tabbed a preseason Honorable Mention All-American and All-Conference by Inside Lacrosse entering his senior year.
Houtby is also a three-time member of the UDM Athletic Director's Honor Roll and has a 3.175 GPA majoring in business.
Twenty NCAA® lacrosse student-athletes who excel both on and off the field were selected as candidates for the 2013 Senior CLASS Award® in collegiate men's lacrosse. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
The candidate class will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one finalist who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition. The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2013 NCAA Lacrosse Championships in Philadelphia May 25-27.
