DETROIT (2/27/13) –The University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team will travel to Philadelphia on Thursday, Feb. 28 when the Titans visit Temple as part of the Chevrolet Gotham Classic. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. ET and will be streamed live on ESPN3.

CHEVROLET GOTHAM CLASSIC
Detroit joined Syracuse and Temple, two of the winningest programs in college basketball history, in the inaugural Chevrolet Gotham Classic. Along with the Titans, Orange, and Owls, Alcorn State and Canisius are also part of the field.

The format of the Chevrolet Gotham Classic featured 10 games with all five teams playing each other once. The Titans opened play at then-No. 3/3 Syracuse with a hard fought 72-68 loss, before traveling to Mississippi where the Titans grabbed their first road win of the season 74-58 over Alcorn State. After the holiday break, the Titans topped Canisius, 83-78. Detroit and Temple will both conclude their Gotham Classic schedules on Thursday.

LAST TIME OUT
Junior guard Jason Calliste's layup in the closing seconds gave Detroit a 76-75 victory over Loyola Tuesday on Senior Night at Calihan Hall. The win clinched the No. 2 seed for the Titans in the upcoming Horizon League championship and a double-bye into the semifinals.

Detroit (19-10, 11-4 Horizon) can still win a share of the HL regular season with a win in its final conference game at UIC and a Valparaiso loss at Green Bay on Saturday.

Junior Ray McCallum led UDM with a game-high 22 points, while senior Nick Minnerath added 21 points and seven rebounds and fellow classmate Doug Anderson pitched in with 14.

Detroit was down by one, 75-74, with only nine ticks left when head coach Ray McCallum called a timeout. UDM inbounded the ball to Calliste and the junior was primed to take the game-winning shot, getting down the court and in the paint, where he made a layup with less than one second to go.

The Titans led by as many as 11 in the game, but a pesky Loyola (14-15, 4-11 Horizon) squad – playing without two starters – fought back and had a four-point lead, 69-65, with 4:14 left. A jumper by Minnerath and two free throws from Calliste tied it, but the Ramblers jumped ahead again by three, 72-69, with 2:18 remaining.

SERIES WITH TEMPLE
This will be the second meeting between Detroit and Temple, with the Titans owning a 1-0 lead. Detroit won the only meeting 87-76 during the 1968 Motor City Tournament.

ABOUT THE OWLS
Temple utilized its best defensive effort of the season and a balanced offensive attack to capture a much needed 71-51 win at Charlotte Sunday afternoon. The Owls, winners of three in a row for the first time since opening the season at 6-0, improve to 19-8 and 8-5 in Atlantic 10 Conference play. The 49ers, who lost for just the third time in 14 home games, fall to 18-8, 6-6.

The Owls defense, which has been inconsistent at best, was superb Sunday. Temple held Charlotte to 27.4 percent from the field (17-62) and a mere 8.3 percent (1-12) from beyond the arc. It was the first time all season TU had held a foe below 30 percent shooting.

SENIOR DRIVEN
This season Detroit seniors Doug Anderson and Nick Minnerath have combined to average 27.1 points and 10.7 rebounds per game. Together the two Titan seniors are responsible for 34 percent of the scoring and 32 percent of the rebounding for Detroit.

CLIMBING THE CHARTS
Ray McCallum currently leads the Titans in three categories this season scoring (19.1 ppg), assists (4.7 apg), and steals (1.9 spg.) and is also climbing up the career record board in all three. McCallum has 1,556 points (12th), 439 assist (7th) and 166 steals (4th) in his career. The last Titan to rank among the top-10 in all three of those categories was Rashad Phillips '01. Phillips finished his spectacular career with 2,319 points (1st), 548 assists (4th) and 190 steals (2nd). McCallum needs 46 points to reach that plateau.

ALL ALONE
Ray McCallum is also close to becoming the first Titan ever to record 1,500 points (1,556), 500 rebounds (466), 500 assists (439) and 150 steals (166) in a career.

ONE OF THE BEST IN THE NATION
The Titans are one of the best teams in the nation in turnover margin where they rank sixth (+5.2) overall. Detroit has forced 485 turnovers, while only committing 310 through 28 games this season. VCU (+8.3), Louisville (+6.3), Arkansas (+6.0), Eastern Kentucky (+5.9) and Louisiana Tech (+5.3) are the only teams with a higher turnover ratio than the Titans.

RACKING UP SOME POINTS
As a team the Titans lead the Horizon League and rank seventh in the nation in scoring with 78.9 points per game. The Titans average 84.6 points per game at home, compared to 73.1 per game on the road, but the defense has stayed steady only giving up 68.9 at home and 70.5 on the road.

RED, WHITE AND BLUE
The Titans have worn three different uniform colors this season and are .500 or better in all three. Detroit is 11-3 in white uniforms this season, 5-4 in red and 3-3 in blue.

UP NEXT
Detroit will conclude its regular season with a visit to Chicago on Saturday, March 2 when the Titans face UIC. The game is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. ET and will be streamed live on the Horizon League Network.
