Game #25: A Pair Of Winning Streaks To Duel It Out As The Titans Prepare For Nationally Ranked Green Bay

GAMEDAY CENTRAL       Game Notes

DETROIT (2/27/2013) --
A pair of winning streak will go up against each other as the Detroit women's basketball team puts its 15-game home winning streak on the line against No. 21/23 Green Bay and its 17-game overall run on Thursday, Feb. 28, at Calihan Hall. Tip-off is set for 7:02 p.m., on Dick Vitale Court and it will be a special “Red Out” game.

Like all home and conference games this year, the contest will be streamed live on the Horizon League Network with Joe Abramson calling the action. The game will also be broadcast live on Comcast 900 on the Xfinity Sports network across Michigan as well as expanded coverage across the nation through the Comcast affiliates. There will also be live stats available for the contest.

Titan fans can follow every UDM game this season through the women's basketball GAMEDAY CENTRAL page located on the Titans Athletic Website that will keep fans one click away from all the action. This page will feature links for live stats (audio and video when applicable) as well as links for all the latest info while also making it easy to find the Titans on social media and to purchase photos and game tickets.

Detroit dropped both games in Chicago last week, but is still in the hunt for a No. 2 seed in the Horizon League Championship. At 14-10 overall and 7-5 in league play, UDM is still looking to cement a home game in the quarterfinals and could earn at least a No. 3 seed by winning out. A jump to second is possible by winning its last four games combined with Loyola losing one of its last three.

Junior Senee Shearer led the Titans in the Windy City averaging 20.0 ppg., in the two games, nailing five 3-pointers against both Loyola and UIC and finishing with a season-high 21 against the Flames. Since returning to the line-up on Jan. 16, she is tallying 13.2 ppg., which is second on the team. Sophomore Shareta Brown still leads the team and is 10th in the nation in scoring (21.3), sixth in the country in field-goal percentage (57.2%) and fourth in the Horizon League in rebounding (9.2).

Green Bay was thought to be struggling when it started the year at 5-2, but the Phoenix has reeled off 17-straight wins to come into the game at 22-2, 12-0 in the Horizon League. Out of Green Bay's 12 conference wins, only two have been by single digits as the Phoenix has posted a +23.4 scoring margin in league play.

The Phoenix has four senior starters with three of those in double digits in scoring in Adrian Ritchie, Sarah Eichler and Stephanie Sension. Ritchie is 10th in the HL in scoring at 13.6 to go with a team-high 4.9 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.8 steals per game.  Eichler is 12th in the HL averaging 12.0 ppg., while Sension is tallying 10.8 ppg., and 4.9 rpg.

Green Bay is leading the league in scoring defense allowing 47.9 ppg., and third in offense at 67.3 ppg. The Phoenix also tops the league in field-goal percentage, field-goal percentage defense, three-point field-goal percentage defense and assists.

Detroit will continue its three-game homestand on Saturday when the Titans entertain Milwaukee. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m., and it will be Senior Day in Calihan as UDM honors a pair of upperclassmen in Demeisha Fambro and Yar Shayok prior to the start of the contest.

THE DETROIT-GREEN BAY SERIES
No team has fared particularly well against Green Bay, but the Titans have held their own with a couple of wins over the Phoenix in the last three years. Green Bay leads the all-time series, 37-7, after defeating the Titans at home back in January to open up conference play, but UDM is the last Horizon League team to defeat the Phoenix, doing that on the road last year.

The Titans are 5-14 at home against Green Bay with the last win in the Motor City on Feb. 4, 2010, when the red, white and blue downed the #23/22 ranked Phoenix, 71-55.

HOME WINNING STREAK AT 15
UDM is 9-0 at home this season - averaging 82.4 points per game - and has now won 15-straight games on Dick Vitale Court dating back to last year, a streak that is currently tied for the seventh longest in the nation.

The last Titan loss at home was to No. 14/12 Green Bay last season, 68-59, on Jan. 14, 2012.

The 15-game home winning streak is also the second longest in school history trailing the 17-game tally between 1985-86 and 1986-87 seasons.

It is also the fourth in school history of at least 14 games. The Titans won 14-straight at home between the 1979-80 and 1980-81 seasons and the 1980-81 and 1981-82 campaigns.

PLAYOFF MODE
Detroit is currently fourth in the Horizon League at 7-5, just 1/2 game behind Loyola (8-5) and a game behind Youngstown State (8-4) with four left to play

The Titans still have a chance at securing the No. 2 seed by winning out, but would need either Loyola to lose another game or the right team to finish fifth so they can win the tiebreaker in a potential three-way tie.

As it stands now, if UDM wins out, it is assured at least a third-place finish.

THE MISSING KEY?
Detroit has seven career wins against Green Bay and head coach Autumn Rademacher has been involved in six of the seven wins.

As a player, Coach Rademacher helped the Titans defeat the Phoenix in 1995, 1996 and twice in 1997, while as a coach, she guided UDM to victories in 2010 and 2012.

WE MEET AGAIN
Head coach Autumn Rademacher and Green Bay head coach Kevin Borseth were both members of the same coaching staff at UWGB.

For three seasons (2004-07), Rademacher was an assistant to Borseth as the Phoenix won two Horizon League titles and made two NCAA tournament appearances as well as a WNIT.

As a head coach, Rademacher's Titans defeated a Michigan team coached by Borseth, 67-48, in Ann Arbor on Dec. 18, 2010

READY, SET, FIRE
Junior Senee Shearer tied her season high for the second-straight game and the fourth time this year with five 3-pointers en route to a season-high 21 points at UIC her last time out.

The five treys came all in the first half when she had 17.

It was her eighth career 20-point game and the first since she had 20 in a home win over Youngstown last year.

BROWN TOP 10 IN THE NATION
In the latest NCAA stats, released on Monday, sophomore Shareta Brown continues to be among the nation's leaders in scoring and field-goal percentage.

Brown is currently 10th in the nation in scoring at 21.3 ppg., and sixth in field-goal percentage hitting 57.2%.
The only Titan to ever lead the nation in a statistical category was Brigid Mulroy back in 2010 as she was first in three-point field-goal percentage (50.5%).

Brown was fifth in the NCAA in field-goal percentage (55.9%) last season.

MORE ON CALIHAN MAGIC
Over a longer stretch of time, the Titans have posted a 21-3 ledger in their last 24 home games dating back to the 2010-11 campaign, as well as 36-11 in their last 47 home games.

UDM is also 44-22 in Calihan Hall since head coach Autumn Rademacher returned to her alma mater in 2008.

In their 35-year history, the Titans have enjoyed a 272-143 (.634) home court record.

THE DEEP ASSASSIN
Junior Senee Shearer has seen 32 of her 39 field goals on the year come from behind the three-point line (82.0%), with four games already that have seen her nail five triples in a game. Shearer has played in just 10 games after returning from a torn ACL suffered in last year's Horizon League Championship.

In her career, 113 of her 177 field goals have been 3-pointers (63.8%) with 12 career games of four or more and seven games of at least five treys, with her career high set at six last year at home against Youngstown State.

GETTING TO 70
The Titans are 38-8 when they score 70 or more - including 10-3 this year - and are also 12-2 (6-1 this season) when they score 80 or more - under head coach Autumn Rademacher.

FAMBRO'S GOT GAME
Senior Demeisha Fambro was back in double figures for the 14th time this season with 18 points at UIC, connecting on a career-best 9-of-10 free throws.

Earlier this year, she reached double figures in a career-best six-straight games, which included a season-high 20 points against UIC.

In the last10 games, she is tallying 14.1 ppg., and is averaging 11.3 points - second on the team and 16th in the HL - on the season.

She also has 95 career 3-pointers, tied for 11th place in Titan history and 12 away from 10th place.

SHEARER NOW TOP 8 IN 3'S
Junior Senee Shearer has now recorded 113 career triples after hitting five more at UIC her last time out.

The 113 career passed Catie Goddard (112, 2002-06) for eighth place in school history, 21 away from seventh place and Jeanie Hill's (1994-98) 134.

#WHAT CAN BROWN DO 4 YOU
Sophomore Shareta Brown's offensive game has her among the nation's leaders as she is currently 10th in the country in scoring (21.3) and sixth in field-goal percentage (57.2%).

Brown broke the Titan school record with 43 points in a game against Lourdes on Dec. 10, and added her fourth 30-point game of the season -and the sixth of her career - with 34 points at IPFW on Dec. 18.

Her six 30-point games are tied with Cassandra Pack (1983-87) for the most in school history in a career.

Her 43-point outburst is tied with IPFW's Amanda Hyde for the second highest in Division I this season.

INSTANT OFFENSE
Since coming off the bench against Cleveland State on Jan. 12, senior Yar Shayok has been an offensive weapon with double-digit performances in seven of 11 games, four double-doubles and a season-high 22 points against CSU on Jan. 31.

She started her surge at Cleveland State with 15 points and 10 rebounds and came back at Wright State with 12 points, 11 boards and four assists. Her latest efforts saw her tally 18 points and 13 caroms against Wright State and 13 points with 11 boards at Loyola.

Her 22-point effort against the Vikings saw her shoot 10-of-14 from the field with nine rebounds, four assists and four steals.

In the last 11 games, she is averaging 10.2 ppg., 7.9 rpg.,  and shooting 49.5% (48-of-97).

SHE SCORES, REBOUNDS & PASSES?
Shareta Brown faces her fair share of double and triple teams and the sign that she is a complete player are her passing skills.

She had 21 points, 13 rebounds and five assists against Wright State on Feb. 13, the fifth time this season and the eighth time in her career she has recorded five or more helpers.

Her season high is six at Ohio earlier in the year, while her career high is eight at Wright State last season.

YAR ETCHES HER NAME IN SCHOOL RECORD BOOK
Senior Yar Shayok is currently second in school history with 1,067 rebounds trailing only Titan Hall-of-Famer Cheryl Williams (1,368).

Shayok is now just the second Titan to post 1,000 points and rebounds in their career behind only Williams.

She is currently second on the team and fourth in the Horizon League in rebounding (9.0), which includes 11 double-digit efforts.

She grabbed a season-high 15 against Lourdes and also had 14 against Canisius.

The 11 caroms at Loyola marked the 48th time in her career that she has pulled down at least 10 boards in a game.

In her career, she is averaging 8.7 rebounds and has 48 games with double-digit rebounds, including 17 as a redshirt freshman and 16 as a sophomore. She pulled down 10.2 rpg., as a sophomore, a number that ranks fourth among the single-season records at UDM.
