DETROIT (2/5/2013) --
Detroit returns over 60 goals from its attackers, including 53 alone from junior starters Shayne Adams and Alex Maini. UDM will have to replace the 39 points (24g, 15a) scored by Joel Matthews, but the team has a host of talent to fill that spot with senior Wes Steen, junior Tom Masterson, sophomores Tyler Schroer, Alex Wilson and Brandon Beauregard and some incoming freshmen.

“The offense is looking good. It looks solid,” said head coach Matt Holtz. “We are more of an offense by committee and get guys out there. Whoever is ready to go, is ready to go and they get out there and play hard.”

Adams has earned back-to-back All-MAAC selections with a first team honoree as a freshman and second team last season. He is the school recorder holder with 68 goals and is third at 78 points, with 33 goals and four assists coming last year. His 2.27 goals per game is fifth among active players and he has also notched at least one point in 28-straight games, a streak that is tied for the ninth longest in the nation entering the 2013 campaign.

Maini has tallied 39 goals and 23 assists in his career and tied for the team lead with 15 helpers a year ago. He also tied for third last year putting in 20 markers. Maini's shots are usually accurate as he has a career 79.0% shots on goal percentage.

“They are two guys that we are going to depend on, but we have a lot of guys who we feel can play and score goals for us and we will see how that plays out,” said Coach Holtz.

The third spot is still an ongoing battle and with all the players in the mix, Detroit is set up to have a nice rotation during the season. Masterson and Steen have the most experience having combined to play in 48 games and totaling 13 goals and 42 points. Beauregard had six points on three goals and three assists as a rookie and Schroer added a helper in limited time. Wilson did not score in seven games last year, but has been part of the team since 2011 after redshirting as a freshman.

“We also have a lot of depth there. There are five guys that are sticking to us out in practice,” added Coach Holtz.

Just like the offensive midfielders, the Titan attack will feature a heavy rotation and a lot of competition for playing time. While UDM does have two proven goal scorers in Adams and Maini, the Titans will look at getting a lot of its attackers some action and then looking for the best group once the game is on the line.
