Women's Tennis Prepares for Horizon League Championships

DETROIT (4/25/13) – The fourth-seeded Detroit women's tennis team will open the Horizon League Championships against #5 Milwaukee on Friday at the West Indy Racquet Club in Indianapolis.
 
The Regular Season Meeting
The Titans took the regular season match against Milwaukee by a tally of 4-3 on April 20 at the Franklin Athletic Club. Valery Kulikovskaya clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-4 win at fifth singles and Nino Sujashvili and Irina Slizovskaya also won at second and fourth singles, respectively. UDM took the doubles point with an 8-7 win at second doubles by Sujashvili and Slizovskaya and an 8-5 win at third doubles by Raina Halabi and Chloe Karoub.
 
The Titans
UDM enters the postseason with an 11-5 record over the spring season, including a perfect 7-0 record at home, and a 5-2 mark in the Horizon League. Kulikovskaya leads Detroit with 22 singles wins on the year and Elena Strakhova has tallied 19. Kulikovskaya and Slizovskaya are tied for the team lead with six conference wins both and three Titans have recorded four conference victories.
 
In doubles action the pair of Sujashvili and Slizovskaya are perfect in conference action with a 4-0 record at second doubles. In HL action, Strakhova and Kulikovskaya have a 3-1 record at first doubles while Raina Halabi and Chloe Karoub have a 3-0 mark at third doubles.
 
The Panthers
The Panthers come into the HL Championships with a 12-9 record on the year and a 4-3 mark in the Horizon League. Maddy Soule and Dana Shannon lead Milwaukee with 14 wins a piece with Soule's wins coming at first singles and Shannon's spread between first and fourth singles. Both Soule and Shannon have five wins in conference play. In doubles play Soule has worked with Christina Colarossi to accumulate 17 wins at first doubles that includes a 5-2 record in HL action. Shannon has been paired with Kelly Fritz for a 12-7 record and a 4-2 mark in conference matches.
 
The winner of this match will face defending champion UIC on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in Indianapolis.
