Levell’s Season-High 18 Saves Propel Him To MAAC Defensive Player Of The Week

EDISON, N.J. (4/29/2013) -- After a dominating effort in between the pipes for Detroit, senior goalie A.J. Levell was named the MAAC's Defensive Player of the Week, announced the conference office on Monday evening.

Levell posted a season-high 18 saves - one away from his career high - in what might have been the most important game of his career as the Titans defeated Canisius, 13-7, last Saturday to earn the final playoff spot in the MAAC Championship.

He allowed just one goal in the first period, four in the first half, and seven in the entire game, with the final two coming with less than a minute left to play. He also made seven of his 18 saves in that final period as the Golden Griffins tried to get back in the game.

The 18 saves was the eighth time in nine starts this year that he has amassed double-digit saves and it was also the 37th time in his career that he has made 10 or more in a game.

It is the fourth time in his career that he has been named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week and the first time this season.

Levell and UDM will be back in action on Friday as they open the MAAC Championship with a semifinals match-up against top-seeded Marist. Game time is set for 4:15 p.m., at the Demske Sports Complex at Canisius College and will be carried live on ESPN3.
