MAAC Release
EDISON, N.J. (4/8/2013) -- Redshirt freshman
Damien Hicks posted a career day this past Saturday and for his efforts, the faceoff specialist was named the MAAC's Rookie of the Week, announced the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference on Monday.
Hicks was a career-best 12-of-16 in Detroit's 14-8 win over Manhattan, while scooping up five ground balls. He was responsible for getting the Titan offense going as he won the first two faceoffs and that translated to UDM taking a 2-0 lead just two minutes into the game.
His 12-of-16 day was the seventh time this season he has won more than 50% of his faceoffs in a game, and he is now 35-of-59 (59.3%) in MAAC play.
It is the first time in his career that he has won a MAAC weekly award and the fourth time this season a Titan has won following junior
Alex Maini as the Offensive Player of the Week (Mar. 5), senior
Jamie Hebden as the Defensive Player of the Week (Feb. 18) and freshman
Ryan Callaghan as the Rookie of the Week (Feb. 11).
Hicks and the Titans will be back in action this Saturday as the red, white and blue hit the road to face Siena on Saturday in a 1:00 p.m., tilt.
