Interview With Coach Holtz
DETROIT (9/10/2013) -- The 2013 MAAC champion University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team is back at work in its second week of fall practice.
"It has been an excellent effort," said head coach Matt Holtz. "We have really pushed them hard and tried to get the most out of them. We have hit them hard and they have come out responding well."
While the weather has cooperated with some cool and comfortable late summer temperatures, the team has been busy both on the field training and in the strength room working out.
"We are just evaluating everyone and seeing where their skills are and what they need to work on," said Coach Holtz. "We just want to see where the team is and what holes we need to fill, and where we are strong."
Part of fall practice is the player favorite morning workouts, which have included 5:00 a.m., arrivals for running and lifting.
"We have just had a great attitude so far," said senior
Troy Dennis. "We have come out here and we just work and work and work and the team has been looking good so far."
The afternoon sessions have mostly centered around team practice and overall skill development, and for Dennis and the rest of the seniors, they want to make sure their last year is their best year.
"This feeling is just surreal. I remember signing my NLI like it was last night and just thinking that four years later, this is my final season," said Dennis. "I am definitely having fun and loving every minute of this and I know that all of us just want to get everything we can out of this last year."
The Titans will have a few events this fall in preparation for the 2014 season as UDM will scrimmage Ohio State as well as play in a fall fundraising event in Ohio. More details on those events will be released in the near future.
