Watch Detroit AD Show Off His Dance Moves
Â
DETROIT (10/4/2014) -- The day was full of goals, close games, comebacks and, yes, dance moves as the University of Detroit Mercy held its annual men's and women's lacrosse alumni games on Saturday at Titan Field.
Â
Over 35 lacrosse alums from the men's and women's program came back to participate in Saturday's games and despite some fall blustery weather, the competition on the field was as strong as ever.
Â
The women started the day and the 2015 Titans got off to a quick start, only to see the experienced alumni squad come back and post a 9-5 win. Besides the thrill of the game going on, the crowd was entertained by some dance moves from the women's team, including Detroit Director of Athletics
Robert C. Vowels, Jr.Â
The men's alumni game was up next to try and top the excitement of the women's game. A near comeback from the alumni highlighted the men's game. The former Titans rebounded from an early deficit and took a lead in the fourth period, only to see the 2015 squad regained the advantage. With time running down, the alums were on a fast break and just before the clock struck zeros, Scott Harris ' 11 – the first goal scorer in Titan history – was streaking in and his shot went off the cross bar and the 2015 UDM squad won, 8-7.
Â
After the games, both the teams and alums enjoyed a cookout with team awards from this past season handed out. For the women,
Erin Campbell '14 earned the Offensive Player of the Year,
Lexie McCormick the Defensive Player of the Year and
Vittoria Wallace '14 was selected the Coaches Award winner.
Â
On the men's side,
Shayne Adams was the Offensive Player of the Year,
Jason Weber the Defensive POY and
Tom Masterson '14 took home the Coaches Award. Weber was also presented with his official plaque from the NCAA for leading the nation in save percentage, while the Titan NCAA record-breaking man-up unit also received its official honor.
Â
The University of Detroit Mercy Athletic Department would like to thank all the alums who came out today and all of those who continue to support the programs as they move into year eight of varsity in 2015.
