USILA Division I/II All-Star Rosters & Website
Â
PERRY, N.Y. (5/20/2014) -- For the second-straight year, a Titan will be on display in one of the longest traditions in college lacrosse as senior
Troy Dennis was selected to play in the 73rd Annual United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association/LaxWorld North-South Games.
Â
The all-star game for Division I/II will be held on Championship Monday, May 26, at 10:00 a.m., at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland, just prior to the 2014 national championship. The Division III contest is set for Sunday, May 25.
Â
The full event will feature 128 seniors from all three levels of NCAA collegiate lacrosse as the student athletes officially close out their college career. Playing for the South, Dennis is one of just two players from the MAAC in the all-star game as Quinnipiac goalie Gill Conners will be on the North team.
Â
Dennis played in a total of 58 games as a Titan, switching from an offensive midfielder to one of the best short stick defensive midfielders in the MAAC. He posted 11 goals and 17 points along with picking up 33 ground balls and tallying 11 caused turnovers in his four years.
Â
A dedicated student-athlete, he was a finalist for the 2014 Senior CLASS Award. A four-year member of the Detroit Athletic Director's Honor Roll and a two-time member of the MAAC All-Academic Team and Honor Roll, he earned Detroit's Reverend Nobert Heutter Award as a senior, presented to a student-athlete who has demonstrated leadership, dedication, cooperation with teammates and coaches, pride in team achievements, determination to excel, and graciousness in victory or defeat.
Â
Dennis is the second Titan to appear in the all-star game following former teammate
Jordan Houtby, who also suited up for the South last season in a 16-10 win over the North. Houtby – the three-time MAAC LSM of the Year and the all-time caused turnover leader in NCAA history – took five shots in the game and also came up with a ground ball.
The North-South games started in 1940 and have been played every year with the exception of 1944 and 1945. The first North-South College all-star game was played in 1940 at Municipal Stadium in Baltimore as the North squad, coached by Princeton's Bill Logan, won that inaugural event 6-5 over the South team, coached by Maryland's Jack Faber. Sixty-seven total games have been played in the all-star games history.
Â
In 1991, the USILA split the event and created two games, the Division I-II game and the Division III game. This two game format was interrupted in 2006 when a special committee of the USILA recommended returning to one game, but combining all divisions. The following year, 2007, saw the return to two separate games.
Â
The Division I/II North Team will be led by Brown head coach Lars Tiffany, while the Division I/II South Team will be coached by Brad Jorgensen, the head men's lacrosse coach at Saint Leo University.
