DETROIT (2/25/2015) --
Two games in three days and one featuring a ranked opponent has the makings of a fun and exciting weekend full of action as the University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team visits Louisville, Kentucky, to compete in the Midwest Classic.

The event is hosted by Bellarmine University at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium as the Titans match-up with No. 16/17 Marquette on Friday, Feb. 27, and the Knights on Sunday, March 1, with both games scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m. (Friday's game time was moved up due to weather)

There will be a live webcast and live stats available for both games.

Fans can follow every Detroit game this season through the men's lacrosse GAMEDAY CENTRAL page located on the Titans Athletic Website that will keep fans one click away from all the action. This page will feature links for live stats (audio and video when applicable) as well as links for all the latest info while also making it easy to find the Titans on social media and to purchase game tickets. The Gameday Central page also carries all the information on each opponent from who is leading the all-time series to who won the last game.

Detroit enters the game at 2-1 overall and receiving votes in the USILA Coach's Poll after the Titans came back to down Robert Morris in overtime, 11-10. Freshman Mark Anstead led the team with six points on three goals and three assists, and sophomore Kyle Beauregard recorded his first collegiate hat trick with his third marker the game winner in the extra session.

Anstead was named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week, while sophomore goalie Jason Weber made 16 saves to earn his second Defensive Player of the Week award of the season.

Detroit will also look for a few "firsts" this weekend as Detroit is 0-7 all-time against nationally-ranked teams, 0-6 against Bellarmine and 0-2 versus Jesuit-rival Marquette.

Marquette comes into the game on Friday at 3-0 with three one-goal victories, all on the road. The Golden Eagles have defeated No. 18/16 Lehigh (10-9), Hofstra (11-10) and Richmond (11-10, OT) on the year to climb into the top 20 in both national lacrosse polls.

Bellarmine is 1-1 on the season falling at Michigan (16-9), but beating Robert Morris (13-10). The Knights will play Ohio State on Friday in their first game of the Midwest Classic.

THE OPENING FACEOFF
A full weekend of lacrosse action is on the docket for the Detroit Titans as they will be a part of the inaugural Midwest Classic this weekend, hosted by Bellarmine. Also in the field is nationally-ranked Marquette and Ohio State.

VS.  THE BIG EAST
The Titans will be looking for their first-ever win against Marquette and the BIG EAST as Detroit is 0-4 against current members of the conference.

Detroit is 0-2 versus Marquette and 0-1 against Denver and Georgetown.

VS. THE SOUTHERN CONFERENCE
The Titans are 8-10 against current members of the first-year Southern Conference since it features former MAAC rivals VMI and Jacksonville.

Detroit is 3-0 against Mercer, 4-1 against VMI and 1-2 versus Jacksonville, but stand 0-6 against Bellarmine.

A LOOK BACK
Sophomore Kyle Beauregard scored his first three collegiate goals, but it was his last that was the most memorable as Detroit Mercy came back to defeat Robert Morris, 11-10, last Saturday.

Freshman Mark Anstead had three goals and three assists for his first career hat trick and senior Brandon Beauregard tallied two goals and four points.

In a game that featured seven ties and a number of lead changes, Detroit overcame an early 4-1 deficit to post the golden goal in overtime.

ABOUT MARQUETTE
The Titans are 0-2 all-time against Marquette dropping a 14-9 road game - the first home game in Golden Eagles history - in 2013 and a 15-10 contest at Titan Field last season.

Marquette was picked to finish fourth in the BIG EAST Preseason Poll, while LSM Liam Byrnes, defenseman B.J. Grill and midfielder Kyle Whitlow were named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Conference Team.

Marquette is ranked No. 16 in the Cascade/Maverik Media Poll and No. 17 in the USILA as the Golden Eagles enter the game at 3-0 with one-goal road wins over No. 18/16 Lehigh (9-8), Hofstra (11-10) and Richmond (11-10, OT).

Jordan Greenfield leads the team with 15 points on 10 goals and five assists. Conor Gately and Kyle Whitlow each have six goals apiece, while K.C. Kennedy is the top faceoff man winning 28-of-52 (.538). LSM Liam Byrnes has recorded a team-high 16 ground balls.

Jimmy Danaher has seen all the action in net posting 34 saves, a .540 save percentage and a 9.61 goals against average.

ABOUT BELLARMINE
The Knights are 6-0 all-time against Detroit with three wins apiece at home and on the road. The series has been very competitive with four of the six games decided by four goals or less.

Bellarmine has played two road games so far dropping a 16-9 decision at Michigan, while beating Robert Morris 13-10.

Bellarmine was picked to win the Southern Conference receiving 34 total votes and four first-place tallies. The Knights also had three Preseason All-League selections in midfielder Austin Shanks, defenseman Colin Hart and LSM Bobby Schmidt.

Shanks leads the team with nine goals and 10 points coming into the weekend. Jack Perkins has four goals and two assists and Dylan Gatt has found the back of the net three times.

Drew Goethals has started both games in net and has made 24 saves for a .480 save percentage with a 13.00 goals against average.

BORN AND RAISED IN MICHIGAN
While the Titans do recruit nationally - witnessed by 11 states and two countries on their 46-man roster - there is no arguing that Detroit loves to keep players in their home state as 24 of UDM's 46 players (52.1%) hail from the Great Lakes State.

Canada with eight and New York with five follows next. Arizona, Florida, Indiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia all have one apiece playing for the Titans.

ROAD WOES
The Titans are 8-44 all-time in true road games, but did have four wins away from the Motor City last season.

UDM is also 3-3 in neutral site games with a 3-2 mark in the MAAC Tournament. The only regular season game played by the Titans at a neutral field was against Manhattan in 2009 as they lost 14-9 in Moon Township, Pa.

AGAINST RANKED TEAMS
Detroit is looking for its first-ever victory over a nationally-ranked team as the Titans are 0-7 in their short history against top 20 programs.

The last time Detroit played a ranked team was in the first round of the NCAA Championship in 2013 when the red, white and blue nearly shocked second-seeded No. 6/5 Notre Dame falling 9-7 in a game it led 7-3 in the fourth.

Below is a look at the Titans' history against nationally-ranked teams
Mar. 3, 2009 at #3/3 North Carolina - L, 19-4

TITANS RECEIVING VOTES IN USILA POLL
For just the second time in program history, Detroit is receiving votes in a national poll as the Titans are listed in the recent USILA Coach's Poll, released on Monday, Feb. 23.

Detroit is one of two teams from the MAAC receiving votes joining Marist.

The Titans are 2-1 on the season with all three of its opponents receiving votes in national polls. Detroit has recorded a pair of home wins over Ohio State and Robert Morris, while falling at Michigan. The Buckeyes are still receiving votes in a couple of national polls, while the Colonials and Wolverines are receiving votes in the Cascade/Maverik Media Poll.

The only other time that has seen Detroit in a national poll was on May 6, 2013, after it won the MAAC Championship and received votes in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse Media Poll. UDM was also listed in that poll in the final rankings of 2013.

LOOKING FOR THE RECORD
Senior Shayne Adams has 145 career points and is in second place in Titan history, just two away from passing former teammate and now undergraduate assistant coach Alex Maini (2011-14).

He is coming off a season in which he tallied a MAAC-best 42 goals to go along with 49 points – both school records.

He already owns the Detroit record with 124 career markers and is eighth in school history with 21 assists.

ADAMS POSSESS NATION'S LONGEST SCORING POINT STREAK
Senior Shayne Adams ran his streak to 49-straight games recording at least one point as he found the back of the net against Robert Morris.

It is currently the longest streak in the nation by four games over North Carolina's Jimmy Bitter.

He has 141 points on 121 goals and 21 assists during this spurt.

In his career, Adams has scored a point in 50 of 51 games - only in his second career game at Ohio State did he not register a point - as well as scoring a goal in 48 contests.

ANSTEAD, WEBER HONORED AGAIN
For the third week in a row, the Titans picked up some MAAC weekly awards as sophomore Jason Weber and freshman Mark Anstead were named the Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week on Monday, Feb. 23.

Weber earns the award for the second time this season as he posted 16 saves in the overtime thriller. Robert Morris outshot the Titans, 51-32, and took a 19-2 advantage in shots after the first period, but Weber was able to hold off the Colonials from doing any further damage after they scored the game's first three goals.

Anstead continues to put up numbers as a freshman. He was the MAAC Rookie of the Week last week after totaling two assists and a goal at Michigan, but improved on those numbers with three goals and three assists in the victory over RMU. His hat trick came in the first half – the second period specifically – while his three helpers were tallied in the second half.

ADAMS FIRST TITAN TO 100 & BEYOND
Senior Shayne Adams - a Tewaaraton Award watch list member in 2013 as well as a three-time All-MAAC selection - has 123 career goals, the only Titan in school history to reach 100 career markers.

He is currently tied for second among active players in the nation in total goals, third in goals per game and 12th in total points.

THE GREAT WALL OF WEBER
Sophomore Jason Weber is back inbetween the pipes for Detroit, giving the Titans one of the top goalies in the nation and he displayed that talent in the season opener.

Against Ohio State, he posted 14 saves and picked up a career-best six ground balls, while at Michigan, he stopped 17 shots, tied for the fifth most in his young career. In his most recent outing, Weber picked up his first overtime victory with 16 saves against Robert Morris as the Colonials outshot UDM, 51-32, including 19-2 in the first period.

It was only his 14th career game in net and in all 14, he has recorded double-digit saves.

Weber won a number of awards last season in the MAAC's Rookie and Defensive Player of the Year as he posted 16.27 saves per game and a .642 save percentage, NCAA bests in both stats.

He made 179 total saves – tying a UDM record – and was 16th in the country and first in the MAAC with a 9.07 goals against average.

He ended up registering at least 15 in eight games and a school-record 23 in a win over Marist in the regular season, which was the second most stops on the year in Division I.

BRING ON THE YOUNGSTERS
You always feel more comfortable with veterans, but it was the younger Titans who have shined in the Titans two wins so far.

Out of the eight goal scorers against Ohio State, three were by true freshmen, led by Sean Birney who tallied two goals and an assist. Mark Anstead and Alec Gilhooly also recorded a goal and an assist.

Sophomore Brad Harris also had a goal and an assist and, of course, there was sophomore goalie Jason Weber who made 14 saves.

Against Robert Morris, Anstead had six points on three goals and three assists, while sophomore Kyle Beauregard posted three goals for his first collegiate hat trick.

Through three games, more than half of Detroit's offense has been scored by underclassmen (freshmen, redshirt freshmen, sophomores) as the young Titans have notched 14 goals and 10 assists for 24 points with the Titans' total on the year standing at 26 goals and 18 assists for 44 points.

FIRST 3 FOR KYLE
Sophomore Kyle Beauregard picked a great time for his first three collegiate goals and an even better time to ring up his first hat trick as his third goal was the game winner in overtime against Robert Morris.

He played in seven games as a freshman, mostly on the wing, and recorded just one shot. He did not play in the season opener against Ohio State and did not take a shot at Michigan until posting six against RMU, with his three goals coming in the final 13 minutes.

ANSTEAD ON FIRE
Freshman Mark Anstead has made an immediate impact to the Titan offense and he nearly put his name at the top of the UDM freshman record book with his six-point performance against Robert Morris on Feb. 21.

Anstead tallied three goals - all in the second period - for his first collegiate hat trick and had his three assists in the second half.

The six points were one shy of the Titan freshman record set by current teammate Shayne Adams who had seven against Mercer - all goals - in 2011.

Anstead is the fourth true freshman to reach six points in a game following Adams, Joel Matthews (6 vs. Quinnipiac in 2010) and Tyler Staruch (6 vs. Presbyterian in 2010).

The Potomac, Md., native currently leads the team in points (11), goals (5) and assists (6).

SHEVINS TAKING IT AWAY
Senior Chris Shevins is part of a strong senior backline and the upperclassman played a great game in registering a career-high three caused turnovers with a pair of ground balls against Ohio State. Against Robert Morris, he had two caused turnovers and two ground balls.

He has now played in 44 career games and has 18 caused turnovers and 43 GB's.

GIVE IT UP
Junior Paul Bitetti was selected preseason All-Conference by the MAAC and Inside Lacrosse and he has showed exactly why he has received those accolades tallying two caused turnovers against Ohio State and at Michigan.

Bitetti saw a lot of action as a freshman on the 2013 MAAC Championship team and he stepped up his play last year, taking over the top long pole defensive spot and earning First Team All-MAAC.

He recorded a career and team-high 24 caused turnovers and ended the year 12th in Division I and leading the MAAC with 1.85 caused turnovers per game. He also placed fifth on the Titans with a career-best 22 ground balls.

BIRNEY GOES BOOM
Senior Mike Birney is back to lead one of the most experienced midfields in the MAAC.

In the season opener, he scored a goal and handed out an assist and against Robert Morris, he tallied two assists and a marker.

Birney – the 2013 Most Outstanding Player at the MAAC Championship – was tabbed Second Team All-MAAC for the second-straight year in 2014 and was a preseason All-Conference selection this year.

He posted 18 goals and 25 points as a junior, tied for second and fifth, respectively, on the squad in 2014.

He now has 54 career goals for fourth in school history, while his 76 points rank seventh. He also has seven career hat tricks.

Birney - who has a shot clocked as high as 114 MPH in the summer of 2013 - earned the Most Outstanding Player at the 2013 MAAC Championship, where he recorded eight goals and had a pair of game winners and a career-high five in the title game.

BO KNOWS OFFENSE
Senior Brandon Beauregard started all 14 games at midfield last season and finished sixth on the team with a career-best 23 points.

He started off the season strong scoring a goal against Ohio State and had two goals and two assists against Robert Morris.

Last season, he registered 12 assists, good for fourth on the squad, and a career-high 11 goals.

Beauregard currently has 55 points - ninth in school history - on 25 goals and 30 assists - fifth in Titan history - in his career with one hat trick, coming at seconded-seeded Notre Dame in the 2013 NCAA Tournament.

THE BEAT OF HIS DRUM
Senior Scott Drummond tallied a goal - which proved to be the game winner - in the season opener against Ohio State, helping the Titans to their first-ever win over the Buckeyes.

He came back to post a man-up goal at Michigan and had an assist last week against Robert Morris.

The midfielder is coming off his best season culminating in being named Second Team All-MAAC in 2014 as he set career highs with 17 goals, 15 assists and 32 points, good for third on the squad in assists, fourth in points and tied for fourth in goals.

He is currently fifth in school history with 81 points and seventh with 44 goals. He also has totaled three hat tricks in his career.

HICKS AT THE FACEOFF
Junior Damien Hicks rebounded from an 0-of-5 start at Michigan to win nine of the last 16 faceoffs with five ground balls and was 10-of-24 versus Robert Morris.

Hicks is currently the school's all-time leader in faceoff winning percentage at 47.4 percent (210-of-443), while his 210 faceoff wins trail only Brandon Davenport's (2010-13) 334.

ANSTEAD EARNS MAAC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Another multi-point game is in the books for Mark Anstead as the freshman was named the MAAC's Rookie of the Week on Feb. 16.

It was the second-straight week that a Titan rookie has earned the accolade as Sean Birney took home the award last week.

Anstead tied for the team lead with three points on a goal and team-best two assists. He got the offense going by tallying assists on Detroit's first two goals before scoring his marker in the second period.

He is now tied for the team lead with five points and has a team-high three helpers through his first two collegiate games.

LET'S JUST PLAY 60
UDM is 4-5 all-time in overtime and 2-3 in MAAC play. All of the overtimes have been decided in the first overtime period.
