Ottawa, Ontario (10/10/2016) -- For the second time in program history a Titan will don his native colors as University of Detroit Mercy senior goalie
Jason Weber was named to Canadian National Team.
Weber is part of a 26-man roster that will play two exhibition games in the United States later this month as Team Canada faces the University of Denver on Oct. 22 and the Air Force Academy on Oct. 23.
The event is part of a process that will help form Team Canada for the prestigious 2018 Federation Of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championships, which will be held in England. Canada is the defending champion after defeated Team USA, 8-5, in the gold medal game in 2014.
The exhibition games are the first part of a trial process that will include an invite to the senior men's field identification camp in the summer of 2017.
Weber enters his final collegiate campaign as one of the top goalies in the country. He has 513 career saves – just 96 away from the school record – and is the school record holder in saves per game (13.86), goals against average (9.77) and save percentage (.595).
He has twice been selected All-MAAC and was the conference's Rookie of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in 2014. He led the nation in saves per game in 2014 (16.27) and 2015 (14.43) as well as save percentage in 2014 (.642).
Last year, he tallied 132 total saves, a .541 save percentage and a 9.84 goals against average, ranking 18th in the country in save percentage and saves per game (11.0).
He joins
Jordan Houtby '13 as Titan players who have worn the Team Canada uniform. In 2012, Houtby was part of the process for the FIL Championships and played for Team Canada in the "Duel in Denver", an exhibition against Team USA, as well as three exhibitions the following year versus Canisius, Denver and Robert Morris.
