DETROIT (2/12/16) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's track and field team sent student-athletes at three separate meets on Friday, with two concluding by Friday night and the third continuing into Saturday.
The Titans sent sophomore
Ben Kendell and freshmen
Carlton Sims and
Anton Webster to the Big Meet hosted by Grand Valley State University and 17 others to the Windsor Team Challenge.
Kendell set a personal record and improved his all-time Detroit record in the 5,000-meter run from the Big Meet with a time of 14:21.69. He shaved more than 15 seconds off his previous indoor best of 14:37 and topped his outdoor record of 14:22.39. Kendell finished in fifth place and was the third runner among the collegiate ranks to cross the line.
Sims ran a 50.49 in the 400-meter dash, while Webster clocked in with a personal record 1:55.09 in the 800-meter run.
Only two of the 17 men at the Windsor Team Challenge saw action on Friday, with freshmen Nicholas Scalzi finishing ninth in the weight throw after a 14.04-meter toss and
Jarod Hoekstra sitting in fifth of the heptathlon with 2,007 points. The heptathlon is through four events, with the final three concluding on Saturday.
The Titans return to action Saturday for day two at the Windsor Team Challenge. Results will be added to this page at the conclusion of the meet.
