DETROIT (4/17/16) – The University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team swept doubles and took five singles victories to cruise to a lopsided 6-1 victory over the visiting Valparaiso Crusaders on Sunday afternoon from the Titan Tennis Courts.
Iris Thioux and
Nynke Van Der Goot dispelled the Crusaders at No. 2 doubles, 6-2, before
Nino Sujashvili and
Valeryia Kulikovskaya earned a 6-1 win from the third position.
The Titans went to work in singles, picking up wins at No. 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6.
Anna Davydova earned a victory at the top line with wins of 6-2 and 6-4, followed by
Irina Slizovskaya with wins of 6-4 and 6-2 from No. 2.
Thioux and Van Der Goot each picked up 6-0, 6-2 wins from the fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
Viktoria Laskutova wrapped up the dominant singles showing with wins of 6-1 and 6-1.
The Titans improve to 5-9 overall with the win and even their Horizon League record at 4-4.
Detroit returns to action next weekend for senior day and the regular season finale against Metro Series rival Oakland on Saturday, April 23.
