DETROIT (4/23/16) – The University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team had its senior day spoiled by a late Oakland rally, falling to the Golden Grizzlies 5-2 on Saturday afternoon from the Titan Tennis Courts.
Detroit jumped ahead early with the point in doubles and looked to be in control as freshman
Iris Thioux put the Titans ahead 2-0 with a win from No. 4 doubles in straight sets.
The Golden Grizzlies charged back into the match, however, with wins at No. 1, 3 and 6 to surge ahead 3-2.
The Titans needed the final two matches to go their way and looked poised to do so with leads midway through the second and fifth singles matches, but the Oakland momentum sent each to a third set, where Oakland outlasted Detroit to pick up the hard fought victory.
In doubles, junior
Anna Davydova and senior
Irina Slizovskaya dispatched Oakland's top line, 6-2, before the Titans secured the point with a 6-4 win from
Valeryia Kulikovskaya and
Nino Sujashvili at No. 2.
The third match went unfinished, tied 5-5 as Detroit had already clinched the point.

Nino Sujashvili were honored for their contributions, commitments and dedication to the Detroit women's tennis program.
The Titans wrap up the regular season at 5-10 overall and 4-5 in the Horizon League with the loss. Meanwhile, Oakland moves to 11-9 overall and into the sixth playoff spot for the Horizon League Tournament at 4-5 in league action.
