DETROIT (5/24/2016) -- Dunking
Doug Anderson '13 is back in the national spotlight as the former University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball standout will take part in the finals of TNT's "The Dunk King", which airs tonight, Tuesday, May 24.
The final episode of the show will air on TNT following game four of the Western Conference finals between the Golden State Warriors and the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Dunk King is TNT's all-new reality competition series produced by Turner Sports. The definitive dunk competition show will conclude with the competition's final eight amateur dunkers taking center stage to showcase their best dunks to capture the $100,000 prize and the distinction of being named "Dunk King."
The Dunk King, which premiered its first of four episodes on May 16, is hosted by Terrence J and Kenny Smith with judges including "NBA on TNT" analysts Charles Barkley, Shaquille O'Neal and Brent Barry.
Tuesday's series finale will feature the final two rounds of the competition starting with the semifinal round as each of the final eight contestants take a classic NBA dunk and put their own special spin on it. The series wraps up with the final four dunkers – saving their best for last – facing off for the title of "The Dunk King."
Anderson – who has won over 25 dunk competitions in his career including the 2013 Denny's Slam Dunk contest as a senior at Detroit Mercy – was one of 32 dunkers to start the show and has now made it down to the final eight.
The Kalamazoo, Michigan, product played two seasons with the Titans after transferring from Mott Community College. In his two years, he was part of two postseason squads as the 2012 team won the Horizon League Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament, while the 2013 team earned a bid to the NIT.
He averaged 9.2 points as a junior, starting 31 of the Titans' 36 games and shot 52.2 percent from the floor as 58 of his 119 field goals were dunks. As a senior, he started all 33 games averaging 12.1 points while shooting 53.4 percent with 77 of his 174 field goals coming by way of rocking the rim.
He had the No. 1 dunk on ESPN SportsCenter's Top Plays on three different occasions in 2012-13, including the top two dunks of the year with the top one versus Temple, and that was after a junior year that saw him also take No. 1 on ESPN SportsCenter's Top Plays with a dunk against Valparaiso.
