Women's Lacrosse Selects 2017 Team Captains

DETROIT (1/25/2017) -- The 2017 season is just around the corner for the University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team and the squad has announced its team captains for the upcoming year.

Senior midfielder Kelsi Pritchard (Orillia, Ont. / Patrick Fogarty) and junior defenders Emma Mucci (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) and Lauren Webley (Whitby, Ont. / Donald A. Wilson) have been named captains for head coach Laurie Merian's Titans. All of them are first-year captains.

Pritchard had a career-best 27 points during the 2016 season, tallying 19 goals and eight assists for the Titans. Pritchard has played in 52 career games for Detroit Mercy, scoring 53 goals and assisting on 15 goals for 68 points. A Second Team All-Atlantic Sun and All-Freshman Team honoree in 2014 as a freshman, Pritchard has 51 ground balls and 29 caused turnovers in her career entering her senior season.

A staple on defense last year and a force in the draw circle, Mucci ranked second on the Titans and seventh in the ASUN in draw controls with 40 last season. She was named to the ASUN All-Tournament Team following Detroit Mercy's run in the championships. She started 19 of 20 games last season and has played in 35 career contests for the Titans, totaling 54 draw controls, 39 ground balls, 12 caused turnovers and nine goals.

A two-year starter on defense for Detroit Mercy, Webley has been an important part of the Titan defense that has recorded the two lowest goals against averages in the past two seasons. She started all 20 games for the Titans in 2016 and finished second on the team and 11th in the ASUN with 21 caused turnovers, while adding 36 ground balls. Webley was named to the ASUN All-Tournament Team last season and has made 29 starts in 38 appearances in two seasons.

All three players have been important cogs for a team that has recorded the top-two win totals in school history in the past two seasons with 10 in 2015 and 12 in 2016. Detroit Mercy has reached the ASUN Championship game in each of the past four seasons and last year, became the first ASUN team to defeat Jacksonville, winning over the top-seeded Dolphins 9-8 in the tournament semifinals.

The Titans open the 2017 regular season on Saturday, Feb. 11 at Notre Dame. Detroit Mercy opens its home schedule the following weekend on Saturday, Feb. 18 against Butler from Ultimate Soccer Arenas in Pontiac.
