ROCHESTER, Mich. (10/16/2017) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer team and Oakland have had some great games since the introduction of the Metro Series rivalry and Monday night's match was no different as the two sides battled to a 0-0 draw from the Oakland Soccer Field.

The Titans (6-4-3, 3-2-1 Horizon League) earned a hard-fought point on the road behind the strength of their defense, spearheaded by senior goalkeeper Robbie Beckwell, who turned away six shots in goal for his fourth shutout of the season.

Beckwell made several good saves in the match -- the first on a diving save midway through the first half. Beckwell made another diving save with Oakland on the doorstep in the final minute of regulation. He again preserved a 0-0 game in overtime with a huge kick save in the 95th minute. Beckwell's final save was just as big as he knocked away a long shot near the crossbar in the final seconds of the first overtime.

Sophomore defender Garret Weaver also had a great individual effort, booting away a bouncing Oakland shot that was heading towards the goal line in the 55th minute. It was one of several good defensive stands by Weaver and the Titan back line on Monday.

Detroit Mercy had its chances on the offensive end as well, tallying the first four shots in the contest. Senior Tyler Moorman pushed a shot just wide in the 22nd minute. The Titans had a few chances off free kicks, with Moorman getting two shots off in the 60th minute off a free kick and senior Adam Clauss firing a shot on goal off a free kick that was turned away in the 80th minute.

In overtime, sophomore Max Becker played a ball towards the box for freshman Kyle Bandyk, but Oakland goalkeeper Wes Mink just beat Bandyk to the ball. It was the best scoring opportunity for the Titans in the two, 10-minute overtime sessions.

It was a physical match both ways with seven yellow cards being issued and a total of 36 fouls called in the 110 minutes. Detroit Mercy held the shot advantage in regulation, 12-11, but Oakland finished the game with an 18-13 edge in total shots. The Titans had a 7-6 edge in corner kicks.

Bandyk was active on the front line all night and finished the match with a team-best five shots. Moorman and sophomore Jake Reitzloff each added three shots for the Titans.
