YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (2/25/17) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's track and field team wrapped up competition on day one of the Horizon League Indoor Championships in seventh place with eight points from Watson and Tressel Training Site on the campus of Youngstown State.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The Titans received points from junior Ben Kendell and the DMR team of Charlie Felton, Zach Arnold, Brendan McClanahan and Adam Fraeyman.
- Kendell took fourth in the 5,000m for the second year in a row. The junior battled through illness to net the Titans five points.
- The DMR squad finished sixth to earn three points for Detroit Mercy.
- The Titans placed two in the finals of the 400m, with Carlton Sims and Zach Arnold taking sixth and seventh in prelims. Arnold hit a PR of 49.68 to reach the finals.
- Greg Ingle broke his PR in the 5,000m by nearly 20 seconds.
- Jacob Whitting set a PR in the long jump and sits in fifth place of the heptathlon heading to the final day.
STANDINGS
The host Penguins lead the way after day one with 48 points. Oakland sits seven points back in second, followed by Valparaiso in third place with 37 points and Milwaukee in fourth with 32 points. UIC is fifth with 17, followed by Northern Kentucky with 11 and the Titans with 8.
COACH MURRAY SAYS
"Most of the results went to form, but we will be pushing to do better on day two. I'm proud of the team for competing hard and making the competition earn it."
