EDISON, NJ (1/31/2018) -- University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse senior Charlie Hayes was honored with a preseason accolade as the MAAC released its preseason All-League teams and coaches poll on Wednesday.
 
The Titans totaled 23 points and were picked to finish fourth in the preseason poll, trailing defending MAAC champion Monmouth (49), Marist (42) and Quinnipiac (30). Siena (22), Canisius (21) and Manhattan (9) round out the poll.
 
The top four teams in the regular season will play in the MAAC Championship, hosted by Monmouth from May 3-5.
 
Hayes was tabbed the Preseason MAAC Short Stick Midfielder. The two-year captain was selected Second Team All-MAAC last season after playing in all 16 games and ending the year with a career-high 21 caused turnovers and 42 ground balls, while scoring five goals.
 
He tied for second in the MAAC and 40th nationally with 1.31 caused turnovers per game. On the road at Quinnipiac, he tallied a career-high five caused turnovers, picked up five ground balls and scored a goal. Those five turnovers were tied for the third most caused turnovers in a game in NCAA Division I and the most of any defensive midfielder in the country.
 
Off the field, he was a member of the Detroit Mercy Athletic Director's Honor Roll as well as the MAAC Academic Honor Roll and the MAAC All-Academic Team.
 
Hayes and the Titans will begin the season next week as the red, white and blue visit nationally-ranked Notre Dame.
