Women's Lacrosse Names 2018 Team Captains

DETROIT (1/30/2018) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team and head coach Laurie Merian has named its team captains for the 10th season of women's lacrosse at the school.

Senior defenders Emma Mucci (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) and Lauren Webley (Whitby, Ont. / Donald A. Wilson) were selected as captains for the second consecutive season, while junior attack Lexie Kinmond (Peterborough, Ont. / Holy Cross Catholic) was named a team captain for the first time.

All three players have played important roles in the team's success across the past several campaigns, with Mucci and Webley mainstays on the back line across their Titan careers. Kinmond was First Team All-Atlantic Sun last year after earning All-Freshman Team accolades in 2016.

Webley is a three-year starter on defense, starting 46 of 55 career contests. The Whitby, Ont. native ranks fifth all-time in caused turnovers (53), tied-for-eighth in total ground balls (105) and ninth in ground balls per game (1.91) entering her senior campaign. She was seventh in the ASUN Conference last year and 49th in the NCAA in ground balls per game (2.65) last season. Webley led the team with 23 CT last season, starting all 17 games. She has started the past 43 games and was an All-Tournament Team honoree in 2016 when the Titans went to the ASUN title game.

Mucci was voted Second Team All-ASUN last season after ranking fifth in the league 50th in the NCAA in draw controls per game (3.82). Mucci had 65 draw controls last season, the second most in single-season school history. The Bloomfield Hills, Mich. native ranks fifth all-time in draw controls (119) and third in draw controls per game (2.29). Mucci tied a single-game school record twice last season with 10 draw controls in a game.

Kinmond has 135 career points on a pair of 40-goal, 60-point campaigns in her first two seasons in the red, white and blue. She led the Titans last season with 71 points on 43 goals and a team-best 28 assists. She was First Team All-ASUN last year and has started 36 of 37 games on attack through two seasons. The Peterborough, Ont. native is already tied-for-fifth in career points (135) and eighth in goals (84).

The Titans are busy preparing for the 2018 season and open the 10th campaign on Sunday, Feb. 11 at Northwestern University. Detroit Mercy plays its first five games on the road in 2018 and begin the home schedule on March 15 against Saint Francis from Titan Field.
