Kendell Repeats As 3,000 Meter Champion, Titans Place Fourth At HL Indoor Championships

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (2/25/18) -- Senior Ben Kendell took gold in the 3,000-meters and the Titans placed fourth overall as the Horizon League Indoor Track & Field Championships came to a close on Sunday from the Watson and Tressel Training Site.

Kendell claimed first place in the 3,000m for the second year in a row, helping Detroit Mercy place fourth with 46 points. The red, white and blue trailed only YSU, Milwaukee and Oakland.

GUY SAYS
Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Guy Murray '89 said, "The Horizon League knows Ben is going to make you work for it. Ben has had so many fantastic races over the past four years and has really dug deep while displaying great effort. It is tough to win at this level, and that makes Ben's repeat 3k win even nicer. Ben is now the sixth leading Titan scorer at the HL Indoor Championships and that is very impressive, considering the deep resumes of his rivals over the years."

"The men's team had a good meet to get up to fourth place. We had some young guys respond well & a good sign for the future, making things look very bright for coming years."

HIGHLIGHTS
Kendell won the 3,000m in a time of 8:17.21. The win is the second of Kendell's indoor career (winning the 3,000m last year) and third overall (10,000m outdoor in 2015).

Kendell is now the sixth leading Titan scorer at the HL Indoor Championships with 51 career points.

James McCann placed sixth in the 3,000m, earning three points for the Titans.

The 4x400-meter relay squad of Michael Nelson, Zach Arnold, Phillip Robie and Darrius Scott finished in fourth place with a time of 3:20.37, earning five points for Detroit Mercy.
