YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (2/25/18) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's track and field team concluded its season from Watson and Tressel Training Site in Youngstown, Ohio. Senior
Sydnie Fetherolf had two first-place finishes that helped add to her fabulous indoor season she had.
Those finishes would help
Fetherolf earn the Most Outstanding Performer award, the first Titan to win the award since Louisa Coppola in 2014, and only the fifth to ever do so. The other four runners were Athalee Norman ('90, '92), Shireese Statin ('99), Ruthie Cook ('01, '02), and Coppola ('14).
GUY SAYS
Director of Track and Field & Cross Country '89 Guy Murray said, "What a great meet for Sydnie. She ran great tactical races and then used her great kick to win. She has consistently put in the work during her career, and it is great to have it pay off like this."
"As for the women's team, we had our best meet of the season and almost found the points we needed for fourth overall."
HIGHLIGHTS
Sydnie Fetherolf won the mile, with another sub-five minute mark of 4:57.34, just a few seconds off of her PR set earlier this season. Fetherolf also claimed first place in the 800-meters, with a mark of 2:16.58, good enough for a new career record.
Those two finishes from Fetherolf were good enough to put her at 13th in the Titan history books with 31 career points at the HL Indoor track and field championships.
